San Francisco restaurant inspection scores explained

San Francisco scores restaurants 0–100, where higher is better. Here's what counts as a good SF inspection score.

Updated Jun 28, 2026

San Francisco takes a different approach again: a numeric score from 0 to 100. And unlike NYC, higher is better.

Reading the score

  • 90–100 — generally good; few or minor issues.
  • 85–89 — some issues found; worth a closer look at the violations.
  • Below 85 — more significant problems were noted at the inspection.

SF scores are the reverse of NYC: a higher number is better. Radius normalizes the direction so you never have to remember which way a city counts.

Where the data comes from

San Francisco publishes inspection scores as open data through DataSF, following the LIVES standard. Radius shows the official numeric score and, where available, the violations behind it.

Frequently asked

What's a good San Francisco restaurant score?
90 or above is generally considered good. Scores in the mid-80s suggest some issues, and below 85 points to more significant findings. Higher is always better in SF.
